近藤正樹の作品…アニマチュアな家具
木工家具に携わって10年目の近藤正樹は、静岡県で注文家具制作をしながら、
ここ4年ほどは彼自身の創作として椅子をつくってきました。
自分に降りてきたイメージを、幹の曲がった部分を利用したり、
削り出しやラミネーション（積層曲げ）などの技術を駆使して、具現化しています。
これまでに、コブラ、エイ、羊、翼などの生物や、幾何形をモチーフにしてきました
作品に腰をかけて感じられるのは
1. 人間の体を支える椅子としての構造と力、
2. 自然界で自立して存在する生き物の形、
3. 木の素材としての制約と可能性、
この三つがせめぎあって出会ったときに近藤正樹の一脚の椅子が生まれるのではないか、
ということです。
いわゆる用の美に徹したシンプルな椅子とは対極にありますが、この時代にあらためて、
用とは何か、美とは何か、を問いかける作品です。
工芸、アート、プロダクトデザインのどのジャンルにも入らない近藤作品の可能性、
それを多くの方に感じていただき、ご批評いただきたく、ご案内申し上げます。

About Masaki Kondo furniture works “Animature”
For the past four years out of the past ten years of furniture making,
Masaki KONDO has been creating aesthetic chairs of his own imagination,
doing everything alone at his studio in Kan’nami, while producing order-made furniture of various kinds.
Images descending upon him inspire him, and he actualizes them in furniture through carving,
utilizing plunks with natural bend, or through laminating.
Although a man of few words, his art products themselves, once you sit on his chairs, are eloquent enough to speak to us.
They tell us this ― when the following three elements struggle with each other but ultimately converge, a chair of his own is born:
1) both structure and strength to be sat on;
2) forms of creatures with independence in nature; and
3) constraints and possibilities.
His chairs are diametrically opposed to the simple chairs at the extreme of functional beauty.
But they come to you to pose the age-old questions anew in this day and age: What is functionality? And what is beauty?
You are cordially invited you to feel the power and possibilities Masaki KONDO’s art, craft, and product designs have,
that refuse easy classification to any existing genres.
